Members of the PCS

Membership

Revised and approved by PCS July 2023

Membership on Provost Committee for Staff (PCS) is voluntary and members are asked to participate from their home College, School, Department or Program. All committee members are requested to serve a two-year term beginning July 1 and ending June 30 (two years). At the end of a committee member's term, prior to the first day of the fall semester we ask them to follow up with their College, School, Department or Program to determine if they will be continuing as the representative or if there is another volunteer to serve. If there is no response provided to the PCS from that College, School, Department or Program by the first day of the fall semester the current Chair(s) of the PCS will bring this to the attention of the Provost Office for discussion and resolution.

If the representative from the College, School, Department or Program requests to leave the committee before the end of their term, members are asked to identify someone willing to take their place to finish out the term. Chair(s) of the PCS will need to know as soon as possible.

Participation

The PCS requires all current members of the committee to participate in the selection process for the following awards:

  • Academic Support Scholarship, Fall and Spring
  • Outstanding Staff Award, Spring
  • Kindness Award, Fall and Spring

To create a fair distribution of labor and review of all applicants for awards all committee members must participate in the review process by providing rankings of all nominees or applicants.  They should also make every effort to attend the subsequent committee meeting and vote on the recommendations.

Committee members should make every effort to attend the monthly committee meetings.  If they can not attend, they should notify the committee chair(s) in advance of the meeting.

If a committee member is unable to fulfill their duties please inform the PCS Chair(s) as soon as possible to discuss next steps.

Provost Committee for Staff (PCS) Conflict of Interest Disclosure Policy

Reviewed and approved by PCS May 2025

Committee members are expected to identify any potential conflict of interest in ranking/scoring applicants and nominees for PCS awards.  Committee members must disclose any potential conflict of interest to the committee.  This can be done by simply recusing oneself from ranking a candidate.

Committee members should recuse themselves from scoring applications/nominations in cases where:

  1. The candidate or nominee is a relative of the committee member
  2. The candidate or nominee is supervised by the committee member
  3. The candidate or nominee supervises the committee member
  4. The candidate or nominee is closely affiliated with the candidate or nominee, such as being a close friend, a mentor, a team mate, or other similar relationship
  5. The committee member has a negative relationship with the candidate or nominee which compromises their ability to be a neutral party
  6. The committee member is engaged in a fiscal/business relationship or partnership with the candidate or nominee
  7. The committee member is engaged in a political/lobbying relationship or partnership with the candidate or nominee
